Laura now has the pickaxe to every help John and stay invisible or emerge him to die and finally have a lifetime of her own. She chooses to leave him behind and walks away. In the very end, the shop explodes and John dies. The deed refers to the feeling of being invisible, which Laura has felt for a wide time.
